Project SHARE (Service to Help Alabamians with Relief on
Energy) is the program that assists persons 62 years of age
or older, or disabled living on a low fixed income who are unable to pay a high energy bill. The
program began in the early 80's with Alabama Power Company, the Alabama Gas Corporation, and Red Cross teaming up to help those who need assistance with their energy bill.
The program is funded primarily by monthly $1 donations from the customers of Alabama Power Company, Alabama Gas Corporation and other
utility companies. Project SHARE covers 58 of the 67 counties and funds are allocated based
on weather factors, elderly population and the number of disabled people in each county.
This chapter works in Dallas, Perry, Wilcox, and Marengo counties. If you need assistance or have
questions about Project SHARE, please call our office (334) 874-4641 Monday - Friday 9 am
to 4 pm.
